  • chars. tho might get some of those metaly protector wotnots stuck on. whatever the actual name for them may be eludes me

  • Once I've found replacements parts to put on my other bike this'll be getting the following put on:

    Sugino 75 Bottom Bracket
    Sugino 75 Cranks
    Gebhardt Chainring
    D.I.D Chain
    Fizik Tape

I've got a crosstop lever and an Ultegra brake waiting to be put together for when this get's ridden on the street (of course it will be getting track time).

The HB-7600 on the back has far too short an axle (frame is 130mm spaced). It's definitely not ridable as is. I'm going to look into sourcing a longer replacement or, if all else fails, getting one fabricated.

  • just get the axel replaced and respace the hub. How come you're using the TT frame for track?

  • Yeah that's the plan for the hub.

The frame was my brother's for triathlon. One day the rear derailleur was introduced to the spokes and snapped the derailleur hanger. On Cervélos they don't use bolt on hangers. They use welded on ones. The frame couldn't then be used for Tri/TT so he bought a Ridley Dean and gave me this :D

  • cervelo with low profile rims looks HAWT!!!

  • new bars

  • Okay, this was just finished today. Not my own, it belongs to fellow forumger Re-Cycled.

Built on the new Surly Troll frame, its core purpose is a tractor bike, with no compromises.
The list is crazy: Rolhoff/Chris King on rigida carbide supersonic coated rims, Phil Wood BB, Middleburn cranks, Burgtec penhouse mk3s, Thomson stem + post, B17 titanium, Avid Ultimate V-brakes and levers, Gore cables, Tubus rack, Cane Creek 110 h/set, Chromag seat clamp and front QR skewer... The mudguards are stainless steel, armourtex'd black and with custom fixtures. Inner-tubes are unicorn scrotum.

Needless to say, it feels fucking solid. Everything just feels so precise and mechanically perfect. I'm going to build myself one (a little less bling) based on a sturmey 8-speed with disc brakes.

    Anyway, behold:

  • yeah, my bars cunt!

  • new bars

    wank

Wow...A little bit of wee jut came out!

  • Did not see that Surly - fucking awesome, it's simply perfect.

well is it, don't forget to stop pedalling when changing gear - I found out the hard way.

    This thing rocks.

Cheers ed, i found out this morning on my ride to work. I panicked at first thinking something was wrong, then realised it was me :)
Just fitted a hope vision 2 led on the front today which is nice and bright and finished the bike off well.

  • ooohh nice bicycle there... are you planning a tour?

  • ooohh nice bicycle there... are you planning a tour?

at some point yes, but its mainly going to be my commuter/workbike/tractor.
Will definetly take it on an epic tour sometime soon though, perhaps this summer.

  • incidentally I also acquired the Rigida rims as well, they look bloody tough.

Mine getting laced up to a Schmidt SON 28 hubs and Phil Wood touring hubs (135 shimano) with plain gauge spoke for strength/durablity.

also be getting stainless mudguard (chrome), Chris King headset, Shimano XTR V-brake (+ levers), and Thorn rear rack.

intended for epic tour only though, already have a commuter/workbike/tractor.

  • plain gauge spoke for strength/durablity.

Do you suffer from spoke breakages in the centre of the spoke? Thought not. Plain guage add stiffness, not that you'll need it it 32-36 spokes and those rims, but they actually give the bit of the spoke that usually breaks a harder time as a result. The greater strain under load of butted spokes tends to distribute stress over more spokes by allowing the relatively stiff rim to move under axial loadings, thus bringing more spokes into play.

  • So Mr Animated Wikipedia, what spokes would you suggest I should use other than a DT Swiss stainless plain gauge spokes for an expedition bicycle?

  • DT Alpine III

  • mdcc tester is right, butted spokes have less breakages than plain gauge ones.

  • Funny you mentioned triple butted spokes, I was told quite the opposite for a loaded touring bicycle by several mechanic.

  • Jobst Brandt is a curmudgeon, a stick-in-the-mud, and sometimes a straight out git, but he knows more than the mechanics you consulted, and I defer to him on this; butted spokes ftw.

  • Will have to talk to the mechanic again, they hasn't build my wheel yet as I'm waiting for the Phil Wood touring hubs to arrived from the states.

  • so far i have:

    1 x frame
    1 x tyre (used)

    /babysteps

haha i love that you got that far and just put your feet up
