  • VLC is the way forward... Local residents are all well and good, nice bit of promo, media visibility, tory MP dreams one step closer... But these well meaning people know nothing about running a velodrome... Leave that to the pros... They can get go out and find the money, let VLC manage the place... Everyone wins...

    ^ this.
I met jason's dad at the cycle show on trade day. They're doing really great SM awareness and PR - its something I particularly feel strongly about (like many of us) so I sincerely hope if they ever need it they take me up on any help I can offer.

  • Umm, try telling that to Sport England. I've just got funding out of them for a national scheme. Any bid to a quango / national grant giving body will involve a BP.

    That's great Chris!!!

  • Hopefully anyone can download these scanned images of the pledge form, fill one out and send it in.
The effort to save Herne Hill needs as many people as possible to pledge regular donations no matter how small so that they can show a regular income and help provide a viable business plan to show Dulwich Estates, once they can do this a 25 year lease should be granted which will then allow the funds to be released and begin the renovation and improvement of the site.

  • Lottery grant for Herne Hill ?

  • Who was the LHBPA representative who spoke at the meeting?

  • Dublin Kevin I believe? May be wrong there

  • Right. That was Dublinkevin..

  • Right. That was Dublinkevin..

He was sitting just a few seats from me, liked the bit about using a Peckham car park for Polo :D

Try this link for downloading a pledge form as shown in pics a few posts above but in document form

  • Lottery grant for Herne Hill ?

Not a bad idea, if other avenues fail. The Big Lottery Fund tends to fund projects that are of clear benefit to the local community, so any funding bid would have to push hard to promote the community benefits of the velodrome and the role of volunteering in its functioning (e.g. volunteer cycle mentoring scheme, cut prices for locals, bike maintenance projects for ex-offenders, free track sessions for the over 80s ;-) etc)

  • BLF should be* part* of a funding mix, for the community involvement side of things. They won't fund sports for sports sake. However, it's handy for start up stuff, or bits that have softer outcomes.

SE will mostly be interested in increased participation as a way of achieving it's own targets for national participation.

But with the CSR next week and tories hinting that the additionality principle of lottery funding may be bending, there'll be less money sloshing about.

  • Now an official pledge form you can fil in on line to make it even easier.
