I still use golf clubs. Dunlop woods are usually long enough, have a solid steel shaft (still playing with mine after 2 years), are super light and give a nice whip.
To fix a head you need to punch them, then drill them with decent bits in ascending sizes from 3 - 5mm. I fix mine with a 5m bolt, no problems.
