It didn't look a penalty on the goggle box, but really, it should never have mattered. Diaby lost his head. The Barton tackle was tough, but looked fair to me. If you contrast his reaction with Sagna's reaction to being maliciously stamped on by Bowyer, it's clear that he messed up.
The only thing Arsenal can feel genuinely aggrieved at is that Nolan only got a yellow for grabbing Sczesny by the neck. I know that he clearly signalled that Diaby went for 2 pushes, so in that context he was being consistent, but that's not the law - the initial contact on Barton by Diaby was enough to get him sent off, likewise Nolan on Sczesny. But who knows what would have happened at 10 v 10?
