I just parked the car on a steep slope, facing nose down.
I always leave the car in gear, with the handbrake on, but this time I thought I'd see how effective the leaving it in gear thing would be if the handbrake cable snapped.
The answer is- "ish", the engine turned over twice- backwards one must presume, and the car lurched forward each time the engine turned over.
Now the slope is very steep, and the car is a large estate car- so the question is this: should the weight and the slope have overcome the compression of the engine?
The engine was recently rebuilt with new valve seals, piston rings and head gasket, so I was surprised.
