I've just been talking to a nice young ManU supporter - a genuine Manc with a comedy accent and the look of a member of the Shameless cast. I was staggered when he asked me who Alex Stepney was. What do they teach kids today?

Alex Stepney was a Manchester United player from an era when they didn't win anywhere near as much as they do now, and were also relegated, he has therefore been pretty much airbrushed from MUFC's inglorious history.

I hope you pointed out to the little git that Stepney's proudest moment was a couple of seasons as Manchester City's goalkeeping coach 10 or so years ago.
