Alder Rd looks pretty direct but how evil will the hill be with a gear ratio of 3.2?
The latter ... right down the seafront to West Quay road everyday, nice relaxing no hassles except for riding over a bit of sand.
TBH there are quite a few ways of doing it.
You can go through triangle, westbourne, then penn hill, then lower parkstone, then it is a straight through Poole towards the quay going past the civic centre ... all are pretty fast with only one or two traffic lights until you hit Poole Town Centre.
There is a shortcut somewhere through meyrick park that lets you straighten it out a bit ... once you go through lower parkstone you will have a ton of options on which way you can get down to they quay ... there are plenty of small roads you can "rabbit run" down.
Going through penn hill on the way home I can usually hit about 25-30 continuously after I get up past the hill on the railway station. Going down the hill there you can pick up some serious speed, but they have stuck traffic lights down the bottom which slows everything down and I think there would be heavy traffic going down there.
