yeah its pretty impossible unless you can see them for real.. i spent hours looking through the RAL chart and searching for bikes already painted that colour, ended up completely changing my mind on the day!
also, armourtex will not do chrome polishing of large area, he'll do a seapost or lugs, but not a whole fork unfortunately :(

Just sent my frame to be powder coated, but they do not lacquer the frame after the powdercoat. Is there anything to gain from rattle canning a clear coat over the top or is it a waste of time and money?
I am going for black, as the place I am using has a ridiculous waiting list for anything else, what should I use for lug lining? Enamel paint and a fine brush? Is white the best bet in a black frame? -

I heard that you can use those metallic pens for really easy lug lining and gold or silver would look ace. Silver more so if you have chrome forks or something.
Also a clearcoat on top can't hurt can it? maybe just give it a couple of even coat and it may help deflect little stones etc. from chipping the paint work

I will have chrome forks so I guess silver would work well. Would clear coat make it run? Should the lines go on last?
-

It depends on the type of paint you use for each, some clear coats are acrylic which may not work with enamel (not sure about this, may be best to ask the guys at the store or search online). i used some spray paint, then used the wrong type of clearcoat and it just stayed tacky, never really dried.. absolute nightmare to get off aswell!
i would advise testing on a piece of metal/plastic you have lying around.

does anyone know if armourtex have painted swatches, like they do in shop 14? I'm taking a frame down there in a couple of weeks and while I'm pretty certain of the RAL code I'd like to see the colour on metal and not just on my computer screen before commiting

They have a selection of painted tubes on the wall - not every colour mind, but a decent spread.
-
• #859
yeah, they have most (all the colours they have in stock) on the wall... what colour are you thinking?

Anyone had their bike done in RAL 6027 and got some pics?
Reading this and googling this is apparently the closest to a Bianchi celeste, Im torn between trying to get a celeste powder coat or another colour...

3003 i'm afraid, it does look f**king mint tho!
-

*as in really nice, not the colour similar to celeste...

Aye, I was in there the other day and asked them about it- I'm torn between RAL 1014 and 1001, neither of which 14 had on display when I was there

Hi Guy's I'd just like to share my latest project with you;
I have just got it back from powder coating (The colour is RAL7006).
This was done by Windridge Coating ( www.windridge.co.uk/content.php/410) as they were able to fill in the dents in the frame before powder coating (something other powder coaters told me couldn’t be done?).
Anyhow, I got the frame back today and it is great (Dale at Windridge even re-tapped the BB after coating), so I just wanted to share it with you all............
Love this colour, reminds of of an old Austin colour used of minis

have you got close ups of where the dents used to be? or are they completely seamless?
armourtex tapped my BB too (or just cleaned it out real nice)...
edit: just realised that that^^ is a quote, but oh well..

Ha, my girl wants me to build her a mixte and was talking about that exact color..
I was looking for a color somewhere between that 6019 and 1000/1001, since I got the feeling 6019 is a bit too much.
Could you post a picture of the entire frame, so I can get better idea and show her? -

just a quick question on this and regard to the application of graphics, found a local place to me (South Wales) that will do the paint and laquer for me, and I have some personal graphics to apply afterwards, has anyone got any experience of applying helitape/biketape on top of the graphics over the powdercoat/laquer finish?

What about the finish used by Francesco Bertelli (http://thebikestylist.tumblr.com/finishes), basically, handrubbed with steel wool, and then oiled...
A little bit frightening, but from what I see, really nice and tempting.

Would have to look after the finish regularly I imagine to keep it looking fresh.
Looks wonderful though. Potential to cover your clothes in shite perhaps?
a bit of an impossible task unless you have swatches in front of you. but RAL 1019/1000 looks close.
