  • Downloaded that highly professional digital audio tool 'Garageband 11' last night from the mac app store on my shitty 56k internet connection. Took a long time. Downloaded some lessons today (as part of a very drawn out process of teaching myself to play keys. I have a Yahama Portable Grand NP-30 which I've been fiddling around on and on a previous version of Garageband I remember connecting it and making da music.

This time,no such luck. I'm plugging it in using a Midi-to-USB converter, the same device I've used before.

I've plugged it in while GB is open and a pop up appears saying 'woah, you've just plugged in a midi device, go you!' or words to that extent, yet when I try and mash the keys with my fat fingers no noise comes out. I've tried fiddling with audio input and output settings but to no avail. I've created a software instrument, at least I think I have. I've tried using a 'Keyboard Collection' project which has a bunch of built in software instruments right?

Anyway, google has proved fruitless, anyone here able to spot the obvious mistake and let me know what I've missed?

When I play the lessons it's recognising that I have a keyboard connected. Just no joy getting any sound out of the bastard.

    Solution:

Switched the In/Out leads on the Midi-usb converter despite being clearly labelled otherwise. So In on cable goes to Out on device and vice versa. Fucking stupid but it works.
