Sup guys, looking into getting a fix, what's the furthest you can sensibly ride on one?
Hey alchemy (difficult to spell while drunk I'll let you know!)
1stly- welcome! This is the best place you could find for all your neutering questions!
Honest answer is, how far you want to go? I know guys who do London to Brighton. Or overnight rides into the distance. Some travel far and wide to do 24 races all on fixed. If you're in London, you'll see guys who do 20/30 miles every day. Brave, when he pops his head in, will confirm the massive awesome rides he does (though he is shy about this).
As time goes by, you get fitter and stronger and more accustomed to fixed, the easier it becomes! The skill and control you gain will amaze onlookers and yourself. I've seen a guy with either skill or suicide tendencies (or both) dive right into the middle of the Hyde park round about (not wise in Anyones books!) but he jumped and skidded withe the grace of a ballerina.
Riding fixed is addictive. But more importantly, the people on here are awesome. Bikes may bring you here but other things will keep you here. (quoted from someone else on the forum- apologies for inaccuracies and forgetfulness).
Take care, ride safe, and don't forget to read the first post in this thread. We have few rules but guard the ones we do. Find the drinks thread and come have a beer!

Can't be talking about yourself here...

Who wants to ride sensibly? I've been to Brighton on mine, but I don't remember it being a particularly sombre experience.

Dear lord you two!
(though I do agree with sumo- he's not sensible;-) )

Dear lord you two!
What can I say? My bike is bright yellow. It's like driving around with the Chicken Song blaring out of your sound system. Serious isn't an option.

Thanks for the tips man.
I do about 12miles daily, but do occasional longer (60+) rides. Current bike has finally died, and was looking to get a fix but was worried I wouldn't be able to do longer distances (I'm a student can't afford multiple bikes =P).

Then you should really appreciate fixed; much less maintenance and fewer parts to replace.

Hello all!
Just joined up after lurking for a good year or so. Been riding fixed (Condor Tempo with full guards, the Grandad one) for exactly a year, done 2700 miles in that time, mostly commuting, but occasional rides at the weekend as well.
I wear a helmet, although I'm not convinced they're essential at all. Use two brakes, which are essential. Dream of owning Rapha, although it's a bit pricey (controversial topics covered in advance).
Joined up to have access to the various rides (kicking myself for missing this weekend's North London Hills ride). Will not be reposting bike porn.
Will do my best to avoid breaching the many stringently enforced points of ettiquette on the site (no, *you're *a c**t).
Best wishes!

Hello LFGSS, this feels a bit cringeworthy and a bit like a lonely hearts ad, I generally not one for internet forums but you lot all seem into bikes and taking the piss so we have that in common. OK here goes, Long time lurker, been in the smoke since Uni in 93 (yes I is old, 38) been living in Oval/Vauxhall for last 6 years. Was into mountain biking first and over the years have got into road bikes and single speeds, knees too wrecked to consider fixed and if I cycle up a hill I'm going to bloody wheel freewheel down it without risking shattering my shins to smitherines trying to get my feet back on pedals. I currently have 4 bikes and my 3 nice ones are blue, hence the user name. The bikes are Genesis flyer (the runt of the litter), Cannondale full suss mountain bike, Denti geared bike and a Mercian singlespeed, I will get round to posting pics of them once I figure out how to do it. I am currently out of work as I'm normally an NHS consultant who got culled by the new ConDem govt last year so I have plenty of time to ride at the moment but no money for new bikes, I really really really want a Erikson titanium hardtail so thats the next project when I get a job . Definately up for coming on some rides and attending some of the pub nights, Souths is the nearest it seems, been meaning to attend for a while but when I was working Monday nights on the lash seemed like a recipe for a Tuesday sickie and I did'nt get paid for sickies, and I seem unable to enter a pub and order a coke. Anyway no work now so no excuses not to come, a big hello to all and hope to see you out and about.

Thats an epic post! Love it! Welcome to the Forum. Dont stress, everyone has to go through it and the better it is, the easier the next one will be. Come to drinks, enjoy yourself, get foot retension (stops your feet flying off), and come on some rides!Hello LFGSS,
