DING! 2,000 points to Gen Lucifer.
For a bonus. She goes to Waterloo, and works off Holborn Circus. I no longer do, so don't know the patch anymore.
Where is LBS of decency in case of (enevitable) future need?

Similar to yours, I had a big fuckoff nail that penetrated into the deep profile section of a DT swiss 1.2 rim that I had to unscrew with a screwdriver!

imhe (in my humble experience) it's more about who's working in the chain-store at the time. I've had great and rubbish service from Evans, Cycle Surgery and the like... totally dependent on who's working, time of day, how busy..... 'tis a bugger, but 'tis the way it is me finks.

The London Bicycle Repair Workshop just off The Cut. Excellent friendly staff and decent prices.

Or Full City, nearer to Holborn that Waterloo - it's on Leather Lane. Top chaps run it - how many bike shops have you been to where the staff (both of them) introduce themselves to you? They do there. Fully worth supporting.
Puncture this evening, yawn.

Also, excellent cheap coffee. A splendid place all round.

Should have taken a photo but didn't think about it at the time. First puncture in three years of nearly daily riding and it was a doozy! Managed to cut through the tire just before Tower Hill. Thank god there are Evanses everywhere. Guy began to give labor charge and I said, "I can change a tire, dude, but don't watch me do it cuz I'll get all flippy." Then, of course, b/c I've never changed a tire on a geared bike he had to come over and help. Haha! He ended up giving me a set of tire levers because I didn't have mine. Nice guy!

I hit something big in a puddle this morning. I usually try and go round them but the traffic made me run right through a big one. I don't know what I hit but it was big and solid, made a proper thunk and bruised both thumbs.
I got about 100m before the front tyre went flat, and I was close enough to work that I didn't bother changing the tube.
I had to do the SPD shuffle through Canary Wharf looking like some kind of half drowned ninja though.
My favourite thing about commuting is putting wet lycra back on to come home in. -

Word. Read this thread Friday, walked out of work to a flaccid one.

I had a puncture saturday, sunday and yesterday thanks to me not being able to spot a tiny bit of glass in my tyres that only started to cause a puncture about halfway to work yesterday morning.
Am going to replace the tyres on my Charge Plug though as they aren't up to scratch for coping with London streets - what are people's recommendations for replacements?

Gatorskin Hardshell. Best tyres I've found.
-

I covered this in an earlier post in this thread but:
IMHO Best for protection (but bad for weight): Scwalbe Marathon Plus.
IMHO Best compromise: Conti Gatorskins.

Marathons' grip is awesome, but they have high rolling resistance and weigh a lot. Gatorskins suck in the wet, they weigh a lot less and I've never had a puncture on the hardshells. They also skid better. Definitely get the hardshells over the normal ones though.

My Marathons weigh more than my wheelset. No joke.
Funny how opinions can be so different, I seem to struggle more in the wet on the semi gripped marathons than on the slick gatorskins. Each to their own.
If you do go with the marathons, you must use a track pump. They handle like pigs if they drop below 90ish psi and a squeeze test is useless as the compound is so hard.

They're also pigs to get on the wheel. So really, unless you're going to be riding through drawing pins every day, get the gatorskin hardshells.

Maxxis Refuse, excellent puncture protection, lightweight, folding and easy to get on rims
^beat me to posting the tyre thread.

The stock Kenda ones are awful
Mine lasted about two weeks - I think they're made of cheese

Maxxis refuse disintegrate after a while. One of mine also tore across the entire width of it after about 10 miles. They're good, but don't last long. My Hardshell has already lasted double the amount of time.

These in 28c are currently working their own brand of magic for last few hundred miles, def worth a look not as massive as they appear and reassuringly thick between the inner and outer :

I really struggle with getting the last bit back on when fixing a puncture so useful, ta!
The full list is here, if you want it.
Were you still on the stock Kenda tyres?Cheers for link...and yeah, still on the stock Kenda tyres! Going to replace on payday next week!
I've decided.
They're a bunch of thieving cunts.
