Anyone here got the Nexus S? What's the general consensus? We like?
Zed from what I see so far, Google aren't actually making an Ultimate phone when they release each new Nexus. Rather it appears to be a vehicle for showcasing what is possible, with the latest new Android flavour. And since that is the case, the phones would be reliable, and cutting edge up to a point. Phones released later from other manufacturers, normally will be of higher spec and performance.
Sony Ericsson, Motorola and LG, all have phones that will soon be announced, that will make the Nexus 2 look distinctly jaded. If not nearly obsolete.
The register has a very positive review of the Nexus S:

I'd be tempted if I were in the market.
No dual core, no HD video, limited to 16gb of memory... Damn shame it'll be too slow to run apps developed for dual-core chips in six months time, which isn't much use when you've got a 24month contract... :/
I would definitely skip over the Nexus S. Apart from it being Samsung, it's main improvement is simply the OS which will be available for other phones soon enough.
It also has some kind of reboot issue for calls >3min. #fail
The consensus therefore is....don't waste any time on the Nexus S.

If the meanwhile.....The LG Optimus 2X has been Quadrant benchmarked - the score is 2391. Considering that its from the pre-production model, its still impressive. The Motorola Bionic has posted virtually the same score. This indicates that the processor speed is such that it overcomes the various slight differences of UI and whatnot, and will continue to output the same averaged performance.

Will 2011 be Motorola's year? Funny, I was thinking this when I came across this article. Their CEO has promised game-changing new devices in Q2; so he's not actually referring to the ATRIX or the XOOM. If they have even better devices than those, then yes, Motorola will be the place to be. I'm thinking of getting the Atrix AND the Xoom. Funding dependent of course.

The new version of Google translate is really impressive. Speak random phrase into it, it recognises it, translates it and will speak in the target language. Works very well now.

anyone on here had the misfortune to use an HTC Wildfire?
Unfortunately I have one on a 2 yr contract. It works well (okay the processor's a bit slow) but if the screen is off you have to drag down an image on the screen to answer a call and about 1 out of 3 times the screen locks and you can't answer the call. I'm gonna try and get the phone changed for something else on the pretext that if it can't answer calls it's not of merchandiseable quality. -

Installed any apps on it?

It's a phone so it's not fit for purpose. I used to have one and it never did that. My other half has one and it's never done that either. I did used to get quite a few scrambled calls though which never seems to happen on my Desire.
But yes as hippy said it might be an errant app causing the problem.

The extremely impressive HyperDevBox (need to be patient for all content to open) is now bringing their Android-only Spectral Souls to us. Its a HUGE RPG, that makes full use of the new limit release on games with a max limit of 10MB. So now their games can push onto.......wait for it.....1GB!!! Yes. With full surround sound. Oh, and they are the people who have brought Ex Zeus to us also, so they know their onions.

You do realise your phone isn't a biscuit? Have you tried the whole put in rice thing though? Usually helps to dry out a phone

Take the battery out and leave it someone warm like an airing cupboard for at least a day. If you try and turn it on you risk frying the circuits if they aren't already.
