No chance. Working, football and friend's birthday all on this day. Why do you keep doing this to me Sam, WHY?
-
• #4
There's a slim possibility of another ride on 7th May. I'll keep you posted if that's any good.

I'll be riding back to Bath along the Bath-Bristol cycle path. If anyone hasn't had enough miles by the time everyone heads for the train then you'd be more than welcome to join me.

Mile 86 looks like you're riding off a cliff
-
• #13
That's Winsley hill. Steep and windey with a very sharp right just before the bottom if you want to get onto the canal.

Hello Londoners...
Just been looking at this with my house mate and wondered if we could join you. We live in Bristol so would get a train up to Farnborough and then ride home with you guys. Have experience of longer rides, we did Bristol to London 130 miles in one day towards the end of last year.
Cheers Ed

Greetings Bristolians
You're more than welcome to join... and from the sound of it you will be waiting for us at the top of the hills. Just get your names on the list and PM your phone numbers nearer the time so we can get in touch with you.

any thoughts on average speed? will I be classed as a lightweight if I were to do it... (drum roll) geared?
-
• #18
I'd imagine the majority would be geared for this, but do it on whatever you want. Ideally, we'll be clipping along at and average of 16mph. Not that fast really, but fast enough for me :)
-
• #19
Cool!
We Bristolians will be on fixed wheel bicycles, cause gears are too confusing.
Checked the trains and we can get to Farnborough for 8.30am would this time be ok?

I've done long rides, but not for a long time...Got a few weeks to put miles in and sorely tempted to add my name to this list. Always wanted to do this ride, as I grew up in Glastonbury. Hell, ok I may be provisional for now

Recce 12th March if anyone fancies it
-
• #25
Sam I'm a wannado for the reccie on 12Th March- (the standard exemptions clause applies, mind). Only my biorhythms are holding me back from committing to the main ride 9th April.
This is one of two century rides, with the other being Bournemouth on Sat 9th April.
The rides depart early in order we arrive at the destination during daylight, and so all have time to unwind with our vices of choice, before trains back into London.
All are welcome… but these distances are demanding, so experience of longer rides is essential! The aim of these rides is to have a nice chilled day in the saddle, with occasional pain, and eat up some miles. If you haven’t done a ride of this length before, and even if you have, please have a read of the following blurb.
Self-sufficiency
Bring tools, spare tubes, appropriate clothes, plenty of food and water, lights, batteries, etc. Familiarise yourself with the route, swap numbers before departing, and charge your phone. Eat/drink little and often.
Check your bike
Give it a look over before the ride – tighten, inflate, oil, kiss, and make sure it’s roadworthy.
Road etiquette
Try to remain vigilant on the country lanes, especially when navigating blind corners. Let others know when you are slowing or coming past, and for the benefit of those behind you, call out or point at hazards such as potholes and cars. If you have a puncture, mechanical or drop off the back, call out to those in front to wait, and unless they hate you, they’ll pass the message forward.
Thanks due to Jonny and STE5 for much of the route, and unless the forecast is torrential rain and gale-force winds, the ride will go ahead regardless of the weather.
