quick question.
looks like I will be taking over my friends iphone 4 contract, so what with iphones being registered to one computer and all, I need to know whether I just reset his phone, wipe all info off it and then sync it to my computer or if there is more to it than that.
also anyone done the same thing, I'm out of contract with o2, but would like to swap over numbers but not sure how difficult/doable that is, if the contract can't be put into my name?
thanks in advance

andrew, i have just changed my iphone, plugged it in ti itunes, and it synced all my contracts music etc.
-
• #1437
the contract doesnt need to be in your name, you just need to ring o2 and get a puc code (or maybe pac code, i forget) takes them a week or so to send it, then give that to the provider of your friends contract and in a couple of days the number will be on your mates sim,

if you are both on o2 can you not do it instore? they should be able to give you a new micro-sim with your number on straight away?
i fucked around trying to cut my old sim to fit having been led to believe it would work but it didn't. sim would still work in old iphone using a sim adapter (made from magic tape and a bit of old credit card)
went into t-mobile shop round corner and they gave me a micro sim straight away that was working in new phone in minutes, i thought it would take a week to sort out. -
• #1439
I cut my t-mobile sim for ipad and it works. It need some serious planning beforehand - it's better to cut bit bigger and then trim to make sure the contact are aligned (they're not it the same place).
-
• #1440
well it was cut to the right shape but the gold bits looked nothing like the ones i had seen on the 'how-to' vids and was different from the micro-sim from the shop.
the old sim was not iphone specific from t-mob as it wasn't officially supported and came out of an old N95.
i only tried to bodge it cos i didn't want to spend £25 and wait 2 weeks to use the phone, was surprised to get it all sorted for £10 and walk out with a new sim in 10mins. -

I had the same problem as you. The solution is to not follow the shape of the sim, but to make sure contact points will meet and then draw the outline to cut. If you know what I mean.
I agree - loads of hassle and luck.

Corny: one phone call to o2 to unlock phone, a visit to an o2 shop for a microsim and swapmysim.o2.co.uk is all you need. O2 is the easiest of all networks to transfer to microsim.

They're also very quick to unlock the phones. Last time it took them one day form the moment I sent in a request.

I already has iphone 3g, does that mean I only have to do the pac code thing, rather than getting a new micro sim, are iphone4 sim's incompatible?
sorry for sounding horendously clueless by the way.. -
• #1445
Sell the 3G and ask them for micro sim instead to replace the current one. Or we can cut it. If it fails, you can always ask for new sim.
-
• #1446
You can put the micro sim in your old phone with an adapter.

EEI,
I would sell the 3g one, but not sure how much I'd get for it, if anything, power button has snapped off, and headphone jack is temperamental so sound most of the time only comes out of one ear..
any offers??? -

find out how much it cost to repair, and decided whether it's worth doing so to get the £300ish price that those iPhone often sell for.

As for your contracts, I'm not sure how it works. Normally you'd have to terminate it before porting the number.
I've put my step-daughter's name on my former business contract, but they didn't allow it - I'd have to cancel it and she'd need to apply with the usual credit check etc.
If anyone hasn't already, go and download apples 12 days of christmas app.
