  • nice!....very nice...been lusting after a custom build for too long...if only funds allowed : (

    ( IMHO American custom builders seem aeons ahead of British builders ( Mather/Demon excepted... ) in terms of attention to detail/forward thinking.....)

  • The finishing on that Llewellyn is insane!.

  • There are some incredible craftsmen out there, but to me a lot of it comes across over the top and a little too 'Franklin Mint'.

    Like these:

    A lot of the lugs on this thread I look at as an individual piece of work and think they're beautiful, but on a built up bike that I would actually get on and ride up a hill? No way.

    Only really fancy lugs that I really do love are:

  • ^^^^ I agree, well executed, simple forms are hard to beat. However I also appreciate a little subtle flair from time to time. There is a difference between nice and fancy, I like a combo of both :)

    i'm thinking a Dodi and Lady Di head tube badge would go well with those lugs

    Like this vintage Mariah Carey Tourer?

  • The finishing on that Llewellyn is insane!.

    It really is,
    and having another look it is one sexy sausage.
    Goddamn shiny stainless lugs, all that effort matching spacer, stunning stem but then a very unshiny record headset that just doesn't compliment it tho.

    spot on, on all counts....why go to all that trouble and deface it with Campag?...and the stem pinch bolts dont look so great....(lugged stems are a personal fave)

  • Franklin Mint from Waterford cycles;

    haha!...tasteless, but at least those lugs go up to 11...

    Lovely, they remind me of something you might find in the costume department of some crazy fantasy epic!

    Looking at those pages got me wondering! How can you tell the difference between pressed lugs and cast lugs?

  • Pressed lugs are formed by shaping a flat sheet so they will have no variation of thickness and if they are really cheap you can see a welded seam.
