as for cobblers... We always use (well, my lady does) the master cobbler on Upper St. Looks terrible but they've fixed loads of shoes for us, including whole new heels and staining down the new heel to match the other existing one. Really nice blokes too. They also put a bettery in my TAG watch for a fiver instead of the 40 or 50 the TAG dealer wanted. Probably won't go down 200m now, but luckilly neither do I.
