    @Olliver no Des did that on an earlier small winding winding and odd camber, somewhere after the first checkpoint, but before Coombe Gibbet. A high hedge had meant an icy patch took us by surprise somewhat. Immediately before that we'd arrived at the scene of another rider who'd taken a tumble on a bend, a mile before that, and we had possibly been a little gung ho given that sign.

    What was amazing about the ice was how patchy it was simply according to whether any sunlight had not hit it. It meant that small patches could appear rather unexpectedly in shade, on otherwise dry roads. Pretty damned treacherous.

    I should clarify that my pal Wig was looking for an adhoc shim for a seatpost problem. Not an adhoc crackpipe or anything. And guess what we eneded up fixing the post with? My superduper magic rubber tape (some will remember me banging on about that on the train).
