I just got a call from my sister who's just been told that an old friend of hers was killed yesterday on his bike. She's asked me to try to find out what happened and thought the forum might know. She thinks it might have happened near Hadley Wood; could that be this accident? The guy's name was Richard Haigh. Sorry I don't have more to go on.

The 39-year-old from the town was in collision with a blue Nissan Navarra on the A1000, Barnet Road
The incident happened at 9.50am yesterday (Sunday).
Ambulance service spokesman Gary Sanderson said: “First and foremost our thoughts are firmly with the mans family and friends at this tragic time.”
Mr Sanderson added: “On arrival the man was found in a serious condition.
“A team of paramedics and doctors worked extremely hard to stabilise his injuries at the scene, but sadly he was pronounced dead shortly after.”
Closures were put on the road at the junction with Dancers Hill Road, Dove Lane and Hill Rise by police.
PC Matt Hollingsworth, collision investigation officer, said: “This was a tragic incident as the cyclist passed away at the scene.
“We are very interested to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision who has not yet spoken to officers and would encourage them to get in touch as soon as possible.”
Witnesses can contact PC Hollingsworth via the non-emergency number 0845 33 00 222.

This is truly terrible. What makes it worse is that things like this bring it so close to home. we passed countless groups of cyclists yesterday morning and you always give them a smile or a wave. For all I know, it might have been one of them. We were heading that way when the road closure stopped us. I shudder to think that it could have been one of us.
All my condolences to the riders friends and families.
Without wanting to speculate on what may or may not have happened, the roads were very very icy yesterday, but that did not still deter some people driving like maniacs.

Why does it take so long to find out deets of these incidents?

Oh no. How awful. Just the worst. I hope there is a full and successful investigation into this and that whatever remains of justice (not much) can be done. Heartfelt condolences to those who loved him.

Quite often, you don't find out much at all. Even at the inquest, when the evidence is supposed to be presented in full, there's often no real resolution. :(

The second fatality this year.
While out on a Sunday training ride with some of the Rollaz, The Great North Road was closed heading North just before Potters Bar. The police informed us that it was a fatality involving a cyclist and a 4x4.
This is unsubstantiated and I'm just going on what we were told but it was a very sobering and disturbing moment. I so hope the police were wrong though.
If not then RIP. Some of the drivers on those roads are insane. We were commenting on it just before hand. Especially in very icy conditions :(
