  • Original tape: 16x9 Digi Beta.

Imported via a Sony J-30 using firewire straight into a Widescreen Premiere Pro CS3 project. F5 to capture. Capture. It's saved to my scratch disk as a 1.3GB 720 x 576 AVI which when I play back in say.. WMP plays just fine, true 16x9

I drag it onto the timeline and the image is squashed to fit in a 4x3 box within the 16x9 work area.

So I select the clip on the timeline, go to effect controls, drop-down menu 'motion'. Scale width to 133. Looks fine in the image preview. Render.

The final export is has to be is DV PAL .mov that plays native 16x9 in QT without having to fuck around and 'tell' the software that the PAR is 16x9.

    File, Export, Movie, Settings:

    General: Quicktime
    Video: DV-PAL
    Frame Size: 720x574-16:9
    PAR: D1/DV PAL Widescreen 16:9 (1.422)

    OK, Save

Now. When I play this fucker in QT it boxes up into a 4x3 window and squashes everything horizontally. Not cool.

I've tried various other settings e.g:

    General: Quicktime
    Video: DV-PAL
    Frame Size: 1024x576-16:9
    PAR: Square Pixels (1.0)

Which works fine when exporting as H264 but not as DV PAL MOV. When doing that it exports a file that plays in the correct window size when opening up QT, with correct audio. But video like the attached...

This is a pain in the ass.

Other formats and codecs seem fine, as I said, AVI, H264 etc, but DV PAL .MOVs just don't want to take it.

What the fuck am I doing wrong?
