The genesis's arent that heavy, ive had goes on them. rather popular in birmingham they are. The tubing is similar to 531, so they weigh about the same as most peoples older steel racer singlespeed conversions.
Something like A boardman SC comp would feel a lot more like a modern race bike sure, with aluminium frame/carbon forks etc. But it depens what you are after from your "winter training bike" A day one or pompetamine have mudguard/rack eyelets so would also make good winter commuters/singlespeed or hub gear touring bikes.
