  • There is very little to choose between any of the construction methods, although they suit different tube materials and joining methods. The Unicrown is popular because it is the cheapest to manufacture, but it can't be made in very thin walled tube due to the fairly small bending radius at the top. That's less of a problem with road forks where the steerer is already as wide as the tyre clearance need to be, so you can use an almost straight fork blade, albeit with the penalty of needing a greater length of steerer tube below the crown race to accommodate the more oblique joining angle. A lugged construction probably has the potential for the lowest axle to crown length for a given amount of radial tyre clearance, with only about 1/2" between the top of the tyre and the bottom of the crown race.

  • Clerkenwell screws can probably solve your problems Balkster

Thanks dude, but Im a fair way from Clerkenwell at the moment.

Length will be needed as well as threaded length.

    Cheers lynx...

find equivalent of clerkenwell screws in oz, replace bolt.
whats that huge diy place you have down there, green and orange branding? should find some there balkini

Bunnings warehouse. Will try. Thanks mate.

Which stem is it? The Cinelli 1A etc. bolt is nothing like anything you'll find in a hardware store. Spare parts are hard to find, you may end up buying a whole new stem.

It looks like a 1A, but its a new one and I gather they dont make 1A's any more.

Thanks all, I'll just take it into the shop and see what they say/charge through the nose.

  • Let's have one Cinelli stem per page of the thread...

I have some bars in a Cinelli 1R. They slip. The bars are ProLites an they are 26.0. The stem is also 26.0.
I used to have some 26.0 airwings in there and they never slipped (and I tried hard, climing out of the saddle with the bike fully loaded when touring, up steep hills). In fact, they were practically seized in there, but came out with WD40 and leverage.

What gives? I understand the 1R is prone to slipping, but it shouldn't be that bad.

I may resort to threadlocking the bars in there, though I don't want to.

I'm going to measure the old and new bars with some calipers...

  • Where can I purchase Sisal Rope tomorrow, the 1st of January 2011?
