1) Van Hire for something big enough for up to 8 people and bikes £750
2) Diesel £250?
3) Ferry £50
= £130 to £210 each...
positives: road-trip fun, foster team unity, don't have to box bikes, (probably) quicker than train, possibly cheaper than flying,
negatives: 12 hour journey means another day's holiday if we want to get to Karlsruhe by 2pm on the Friday or driving through the night, someone has to pay/take responsibility for the van, 1 or 2 people have to drive, double journey time of plane and not much cheaper
I only looked at one van quote, so that could be a fair bit out either way, and I'm just guessing about diesel/petrol prices. I can't see the totals being a lot less, though... Roadtrip looks totally impractical, but maybe watching too many American movies makes me want to do it that way, regardless.
It'd be nice to sort something in the next few days, so I may just end up flying.
