this morning I was toasty in swrve softshell 3/4, milwaulkee hoodie, knee length chocolate fish merino socks, and a rapha long sleeved baselayer underneath.
Jenne, this might be what you're after

oohh ... want!

I wore the usual this morning, roubaix (brushed/furry interior) leggings with some civvy shorts over the top (they don't add any warmth, I just need the pockets, and get fewer weird looks from non-cyclists). If you're legs are still cold in roubaix gear then spin faster! On top I had a HH base layer and a snowboarding jacket. For gloves I had decalthon liners and some ordinary autumn/spring long finger mtb gloves. Warm.
I've got to agree with konijn on the snowboard jacket- really waterproof, a bit longer over the bum, mine's got zips under the arms for when you overheat, it's brilliant. And also a snowskirt to stop powder going down your pants :)
Howie's merino baselayers are brilliant too. -

http://www.wiggle.co.uk/sugoi-ladies-wallaroo-290-speedster/yeahman, that's it! gonna go check out chocolate fish, too. I only ever really have issues with my feet and hands being cold - should I get snowboarding or skiing socks? they'll be thicker and warmer. maybe I need to go up a shoe size in winter to be able to fit fatter socks in there?

oooh, can't wait! there were only four in my size so I just ordered one! I wonder if it'll be here before I leave on Tuesday? (Turkey Day visit back to the States)

@ renster - those dHb bibs are pretty toasty. I think they'll be warm enough for the entire winter. Last winter I just cycled in standard running tights - I'd always turn up to work with pink pink pink legs. These are a much more sensible choice!

I posted this on the Merino thread but ..Chocolate fish have knee length merino socks on Sale at a tenner each, I got another pair yesterday - so toasty warm, and better than my other pair. In fact I might buy another couple of pairs today, so if anyone wants to do a group buy and save on postage let me know. I can distribute at Souths/West

I have these trousers from Howies, they are made from "epic cotton" so they are super waterproof, but they look and feel like a normal pair of trousers.

dhb is the shizzle, I got the ladies Rogate LS jersey this week and its great for the price (it's already 33% off, and I got another £5 discount on top). The sizing is a bit weird though - quite wide at the shoulders, and the arms could do with being a smidge longer for me. Its uber warm though (its windproof and got an amazingly soft quilty fleece lining), can see it getting a lot of use for commuting and winter road rides. I'm definitely gonna get the Pace 3/4 bib tights for cross soon now too.

I too have been putting off cycling for a couple of weeks because I am so ill equipped for winter and your tips have really helped. But does anyone h.ave any tips as to how to keep feet warm as much as possible - it's always my toes that get it and my commute is a good 15k

Neoprene overshoes (assuming you're going clipless) - Endura do some.
PRO do a well priced range too. I have the Ventura's which are the thickest overshoes I have found to date.
Could always try toe covers.

There's nothing worse than cold feet on a ride.
(hélène - this works for me and my commute is about the same length)
For really cold weather ...
I wear Assos socks - either of these, or a pair of merino liner socks (Sealskinz do some)

And Sealskinz - http://www.wiggle.co.uk/sealskinz-mid-thermal-merino-waterproof-socks/
With Altura Ladies Specific Overshoes (not sure what exactly makes them ladies specific though) - http://www.wiggle.co.uk/altura-ladies-synergy-overshoe/
There's some useful info on here - https://www.lfgss.com/thread2434.html

Now that the Swrve ladies line is going out of production...
Oh no! I'd just decided that the one thing I really wanted were swrve 3/4 softshell - and now you're saying they're not making them any more? Any top tips on where the last remaining pairs can be found? Or any good alternatives? Are the men's a viable option? I liked the look of the howies, but had kind of set my heart on 3/4.

KT Bee, Chris is awesome and he'll give you a lot of info, but it all depends on your size. I wear approx 10 in women's and the 28 3/4 softshells fit just fine. You generally have to ask him to special order them, though. I will be on 'em with the next sale.
Maybe Clefty needs to ask him to do a bulk order?
