The Dave Creasy memorial Six
Sunday September 11th 2011 sees a brand new event come to Herne Hill, in memorial of the late Dave Creasy. Dave was a stalwart of the activities at Herne Hill, and his dedication to the track and cycling in general for decades helped people of all ages and backgrounds take up the sport, from recreational leisure cyclist to Olympic champion. Dave is hugely missed by the cycling community.
The meeting will provide a fitting tribute to Dave. He was an avid supporter of the annual ‘Six Days of Ghent’ track event, attending every year, and the meeting will contain a 6 day theme consisting of a Madison Omnium for the senior ‘A’ category riders, including reverse sling Madison 200m TT, derny race, Madison Elimination, and a 30km ‘Ploegkoers’ Madison race. There will be special events as Dave particularly supported both women’s and youth racing. Along with versions of the senior ‘A’ races for women and older youth riders, there will be ‘Mr Creasy’s Danish line race’ for youth riders, a particular favourite of Dave’s, and a women’s derny race. Alongside the racing there will be Ghent themed music for entertainment, beer tent, cycle jumble, stalls, food and drink and plenty to keep spectators going whilst enjoying the racing. Entry to spectators will be free.
We have more than £1500 prize fund for the event, including £200 for the winning Senior A pair, thanks to Herne Hill Velodrome and friends of Dave.
The Dave Creasy memorial Six will also be the official opening event for the new track surface at Herne Hill, and following the event there will be open track riding for all and a free film night organised by the Save the Velodrome Campaign.
Please come along, either as rider or spectator, and support the memory of a man who gave so much to cycling. Please contact John Scripps at davecreasymemorial6@hotmail.co.uk for more details, or follow the event on Twitter @DaveCreasySix. Riders can enter the event online via the British Cycling website. Senior A and Female category riders should look for a partner to ride with, and closing date for entries is 1st September (there is NO entry on the day for senior A or women). There will be entry on the day for senior B riders (there are no Madison events for senior B’s).
Online entries close on 9th September for youth riders although youths can enter on the day at a cost of £3. Youth A riders should also find a partner to ride with before the event, and entering in advance is encouraged.
See you on the day!!Cheers,
John
Thanks, Jason... I'll do my best to be there...
