  • Here's mine last night. Lots of snow, but it's thawing a lot today.

  • Lots of snow, but it's thawing a lot today.

Obviously not thawing enough. This missus just got stuck in the 4x4 trying to get up the farm track. At least when I get stuck on the bike I can just get off and push/carry it.

  • meant to say yesterday, very much like this also, well done

    Just seen this.
I'm not really into the white tyres or chain but everything else is well nice. Porn for sure.

  • bike in the snow

  • My bike on the top of the Pennines a couple of years back

  • I would pay umpteen pounds to be in that very position right now. What a beautiful shot.

  • ehh, have to deal with this shit in Finland right now:

    25mm tires.

Can't wait to get my creamroller frameset from the factory. It's sold out all across europe it seems.

  • My snow bike, I have another with mudguards, this is for dry cold weather.

    Bikes in Uppsala, Sweden.

  • I recently finished this build - if nothing else finally ordering some snow tyres seems to have put paid to the snow, for now anyway. Not the greatest on tarmac as you would expect - sounds like you're riding on loose gravel and corners as if you are too. Good workout though! The frame is great - ovalised Reynolds 525 - thanks SimplexNL.

  • Awesome gazelle!

Proper snow! How do you find getting about with snow like that, do you use cross tyres? Over here it snows then the roads turn into ice very quickly making it quite trecherous.

  • got 25mm marathon plus wheels at the moment so riding is quite painful, as the Nelson frame is quite thight. I dont have any other bike (except carbon roadie) at the moment, and I've been waiting for my local bike shop to get my steamroller frame for like a week now. Arrives in 2-3. Going 32mm or 35mm with studs/spikes (cant remember how are they called).

But yea, few days after that photo the city took care of that street. Now its just hard packed snow, so kinda like riding on hard mud/sand but a bit slippier. Its fine with the wheels I got now. Most of the bikepaths are quite ok to ride. Hard snow, long skids.

  • That is what I am riding on at the moment.
My only issues are when the paths are not cleared at all and the only 'path' is a one foot wide compressed strip of snow. You hit one foot print wrong and it send a wheel into the deep stuf and knocks you off.
The other is uncleared roads that have had cars go down them. Absolute guaratee of falling off on some roads.

  • Snow is back on up here for 2 weeks they reckon - I'm going dahn sarf though for a few days. hope its still here when I get back

  • Used to have 32mm Nokian studdies on a tourer for years in 1990's round Helsinski.
    Never fell, they are allright.

Now got the monster tyres just for the fuck of it. Still have bailed out because of the major fallout of the white pollution. Let's see if I will get the beast home from office cellar tomorrow.

  • It's been FUCKING it down with snow all day - it's coming down so think just now I can't see out of the window! Fucking whiteouttttttttttt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Cant.

Currently building bridges out of 'french fries' crisps, and 'potatoe sticks' crisps. Should be the same principle.

    hold on.

    ........Feck!

Damn you mais based potatoe impersonator, destroyer of science.

Dan Quayle? What are you doing here?

  • Ok so apologize if this has been answered elsewhere.

Seen a few posts about grit and steel not getting on.

is it really that bad? What can I realistically expect? My bike is old and has many a scratch.

Will mudguards prevent most of the damage?

  • its not the grit thats the problem its the salt, itll fuck it up good even if its new, mudguards will reduce the ammount of shite lobbed over the bike but the best way to deal with it is rinse it with cold water daily, using hot will just spred it and get the salt in deeper, weve been battling the salt for years on motorbikes, you can get stuff called acf50 or scotoilers 365 which does a good job keeping the corrosion away

  • so what does it accelerate rusting then or a different type of corrosion?

  • rusting, the platings coming off different metals, corrosion of all types tbh, ive seen many of my motorbikes and pushrods rot to shit from just a day without a rinse, this new type of salt they use is even worse as it hangs around much longer so itll still be on the roads in march.

the acf50 is the best its used on fighter jets but its not cheap the 365s almost as good but you need to use more good new is its only about 7 quid a bottle, it also makes the next clean easier

  • I need to clean off the moto and the winter bike then, never realised there was such an issue. Cheers.

Does aluminium fare better then? Might stick some slicks on the mtb and start using that instead.

  • nope ally furs up and goes white, its all a pain in the arse tbh
i need to get my hands on some 365 and soak everything with it, xt and mtb not moved for weeks lol

  • FGS! I'll have to get some protection. Might just dowse everything with gt85 for now.
