  • sorry sunshine, but that's trenchant bollocks and you know it.
/anyway, this thread is about wishing X well. lets drop it.
    //apols for doubles

  • Not really. Maybe you've just been on the wrong side of the law too many times yourself. They have a job to do, deal with it. Did he get bumraped in the back of a Police Car? No. Did he get charged for being maybe LGBT? No. Did they bribe him? No.

*Not saying Hartxander is gay or anything.

  • Fair enough.

  • not as such, but i certainly grew up in an environment where arbitrary abuse of police powers and intimidation of people who are to all intents and purposes considered suspect by sheer virtue of their appearance was considered acceptable, at least by those in uniform - it stank then, it stinks now.

/fucksocks - stay on target... stay on target...

  • They saw my tattoos and a bandanna and instantly assumed I was a mexican gangster

  • I cant blame them

  • Word.

  • Shall I:

    A) Wade in with my annoyance at the latent sexism exhibited here.

    B) Put thread on ignore and use my womanly blinkers to think that the forum is always a nice place

    C) Go back to the kitchen*.

  • ^Hahaha awesome comment

I vote A). The usual suspects trotting out their tired old pathetic comments.

  • Much sympathy with the OP. Very similar thing happened to me in the summer. I landed on my face, bent my front wheel, busted my helmet and scratched up my watch. Also dislocated my finger which will take at least 6 months and two lots of physio a week to straighten.

The worst of it was that the ped didn't even notice me and there were so many people trying to help me after that I couldn't catch up with her. So no redress.

  • Ugh, I ploughed into some woman on Monday. I was filtering an the rhs of the stationary traffic on Clerkenwell rd, rather slow like. I'd seen a head nip between a couple of cars and assumed it was another cyclist, but no. She ran out in front of me, I shouted 'watch it' to her (trust me to be riding the brakeless trick steed that day)...hit her straight in the groin with my wheel /head tube as she yelled 'I'm sorrry!!'. So I was about to ask her if she was OK, when some twat in a banger to the left of me was all like 'you wanna slow down, I've seen all your lot, riding too fast'. The fire inside me roared, but I just said to him 'Did you not see her run out in front of me...I don't think you're in any position to comment, so be quiet'. Cock. Didn't wanna give him the satisfaction of a full argument, and justify his negative perceptions of cyclists. Didn't get a chance to see if the woman was indeed ok...

    fresh?

  • Note that any statement taken at the scene is in admissible with a good solicitor. Get her details and sue her for the wheel and the pain.

  • what's the going rate for pain? ;)

  • what's the going rate for pain? ;)

About the same length as my last relationship.

  • we always complain when a driver hits us, especially if they were driving dangerously; why is it different when a cyclist hits a ped?

+1 I RLJ and go the wrong way up 1-way streets, but I do so VERY carefully, with the attitidude that if I'M break the rules, and something goes wrong, then it's my fault and I'm responsible for any loss/ injury caused.

Oh yeah...and get well soon mate

  • Was she hot?

  • Are you for real?

  • Ha ha, reminds me of a conversation down the pub with a mate last night, he'd left his phone on the bus in Kentish Town and this girl had traced him and he'd got his phone back (he's always losing his phone).

Cue another friend asking if she was fit, apparently not, so he hadn't done anything to thank her...

    How are the ribs?

  • Dear OPer
Glad you made it out of the tangle relatively unscathed.

It is curious that no record seems to have been made of this incident... if that lump on the woman's head turns out to be long term damage, or you sustained something that only came to light later, then the old bill taking some account of the incident would seem wise. The person on this thread defending the police seems to have missed the point that this oversight is pretty bad practice. Seems like the search was a bit uncalled for but in the SOCPA area the police do seems to be very jumpy, as a rule.

  • Haha!thanks for asking, the ribs are nice and purple and tender. It feels as if rocky has been at them.

    @ skully
I gave the police all my details and did everything they asked me to, i remember having to sign something so I dont know whether it was
just a case of them forgetting to give me a piece of paper. I think if the ladys injury had turned out to be serious they would have been
    in contact with me already.
In hindsight i should have taken down peoples details for my own records but in any situation like that you can still be in shock so dont really
do what one would do normally!
I am very relieved that i havnt been contacted as this hopefully means that the lady will be ok which for me was my main concern even
though it was her fault! After i realized myself and my bike were relatively unscathed!

  • Just read all this bad luck man. No contact probably means everything is ok I would imagine.

  • H hope you feeling bit better now. Dont worry about your rights being read to you, they have to do that before they take your statement, which is just a formality and must be done because an accident occured on the road. You as the cyclist come higher up the food ladder than the ped, as a consequence you have the first responsibility to avoid the accident, even if they step out like a lemming. If you got hit by a motor vehicle then you would be the one (hypothetically) getting more of the sympathy.

Don't know why they think they can search someone injured at the scene of an accident and could be worth taking further if you felt inclined but at most I guess you might get an apology! If you volunteer to it then no paperwork needed but they have to record it. If you phone the local cop shop they can give you the unique number to your incident and therefore any coppers numbers etc...

Write it all down and cover your arse - just in cases...
