  • Karrimor Padded Cycling Pants Mens £7 on Amazon.
    They've done the job for me since last winter, you can't go wrong for £7 can you?

  • thanks, only s or xxl left thought - might try the xxl

  • They do come up on the small side fwiw.

  • Got some pretty nice Giordana padded bibs from Ribble for about £30-almost half price, look good quality but quite snug for the sizing. Minus 15 here though so might be a while before I can use 'em.

    bet that's fucking with your Etape training - are you smashing the turbo trainer instead?

    Yup. Well, trying to. Can't manage much more than an hour atm just through boredom! Need to get in on the LoveFilm action... Been very well behaved with the diet though... no junk since I put my name down. Lots of booze last week tho ;(

  • Yeah I'm worried about the Christmas weight gain. My plan is to go stay at my Mums in Wales and suffer in the mountains there. Hopefully the snow will have fucked off by then, otherwise I'll have to go running. Double misery.

  • £39.99 for Super Roubaix fabric bib tights at Decathlon- test ride this morning showed them to be very comfy, and if anything slightly too warm for todays weather.

  • I've been toying with the idea of simply picking up a set of roubaix bib shorts instead of tights. The idea being that I can combine them with knee warmer or leg warmers, according to needs. But I came to the conclusion that I would'nt use them without said knee/leg warmers (if its cold enough for roubaix fabric my old knee will need warmth), so a pair of 3/4 knickers would be more useful.

    Going to treat myself to some Assos T Roubaix FI.Mille. I reckon I'll be using these for my roadie'n most of the year, so might as well get the best. Not sure about the Bono 'fly' shades though.

    Anyone used these? Do they have a specific fit characteristics?

    I was going to order medium based on my height, as I like them tight fitting, and am most concerned with the shoulder straps being the right length (I'm 5'7")

  • 3/4s are for veterans and weirdos

  • I do the fleece bibs + optional kneewarmers thing. Bibknicks are a lottery - the way the knee joint is stitched and designed to articulate is based on having a certain femur length. If you happen to not fit this template, despite them being the correct size, you end up with them riding up, or stitching cutting across tendons at uncomfortable places, and so on. The 2-part system gets around this predicament.

    I don't know about Assos sizing. The most important aspect of fit is around the chamois/upper thighs/hips, just like any other downstairs cycling garment. Whether the straps are long enough is dependent on manufacturer templates. If the shorts fit but the straps are too short, strike the manufacturer off your list of possibilities.

    This is a bit of a worry for me. I carry most of my shortness in my femurs. I shall look into thermal bibs some more, before committing. Either way I can see myself covering my knees up all year. I think my cold weather running has aged them beyond their already advanced years.

    Cheers for the advice.

    Thats what the zips there to contain.

    I think you're overthinking it. Even if they're not exactly the right length etc, I still find tights more comfortable than knee warmers.

    My knees are definitely happier when covered. I have on occasion (really really cold) recently worn knee warmers under bibs for a bit of extra warmth - start to move around after a while though. Wish I could spring for better quality tights.

  • Let's just get some terminology straight, in case there are any confused onlookers:

    Biblongs = bibtights

    Bibknicks = bibknickers = bib 3/4s

    Bibshorts = bibs

    Kneewarmers = win

  • i have some assos bibtights for sale if anyone wants some kwality on the cheap, small hole on the side of knee that needs a stitch 40notes think they are a medium.

  • After growing tired of the fact of no jeans/casual trousers fitting & being comfortable to ride in I succumbed to cross-dressing and bought myself some jeggings.

    The fit is incredible, but it turns out Im a little too "bootylicious" as my legs/arse totally looks like Beyonce or something.

    I think for the sake of common decency, they shall have to go back.

    I'm not a massive fan of the groin epilation effect I get from the silicone gripers on my knee warmers TBH.

    I'm thinking knickers at the moment.

  • Pervert.

  • my knees don't like the cold so for epic Belgian style rides i wear 3/4's and leg warmers for double knee insulation.

  • For cold days I love the Tudor York tights. They are warm and comfy. They also do a 3/4 length version.

    Mine have only developed this dislike recently. Trained rugby for 2 hours during a snowstorm last night. As always i had shorts on. Realised this morning that, that was bloody stupid.

    May actaully start using cycling knee warmers for winter training.
