I think I only paid £40 for my icebreaker one and it's plenty thick and warm.

Seriously I think it feels colder tonight than it has so far, but that might be because I've not been out and about warming up tonight.

Just go for those Uniqlo Heattech one if you can't afford Merino, they work surprisingly well and kept me toasty.
Nothing beat a nice Merino wool baselayer/jumper though.

Not even a dirty blowie off sexy Joanne from Events who's been complaining about her boring boyfriend and trying to get you pissed all night?
Hmmm?

Nothing bleats like a nice Merino.

My ride was fine. Greenwich to Moorgate/Old St. Bit cold though.

It was. I'm looking forward to moving away from 3/4s, shorts and knee length socks.

My feet were like blocks of ice after my short 3.5 mile commute. And that's with Rapha winter socks in my sidis.
Currently looking into overshoes as my feet are the only bit that gets cold now. If anyone fancies recommending some (nothing too pricey) that would be nice.

Endura Neoprene are good. Cheap, warm, waterproof. Usually about £15. Mine have lasted me 2 years, and are still going strong.
(XL size fit my size 12 shoes nicely)

Met check is predicting -4ºC at 6pm tonight in central London. I don't remember it ever being that cold in town so early in the evening. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

I rode from Dalston to Willesden at midnight last night, -4 then too. Fuck me it was cold, I was doing sprint intervals just to stay warm!
Not as cold as Manchester last week mind, that was off the scale. Must have been -6 up there. After 40 miles I was a wreck and had to go back to my girlfriends and thaw out.

so what happens if ya get a puncture in the freezing cold?
pre-zip-tied spare wheelz?
Merino base-layer.
That is all.
Well, not all I was wearing, but you catch my snow-drift.
