• NJS chains have the screw-out pin. Quick links are usually sold separatly. I always use them on my commuter, to make cleaning the chain easier in winter.

    I've always had problems with Izumi screw links. I thought they were the best idea ever until I finished a Nat champ race with the screw half out and no nut. It was all done up tight beforehand. After that I tried superglue but nothing seemed to want to keep it in. Must have been the sheer power coming from the legs of an endurance rider.

    Splitting a chain is no big deal if you have a decent chain splitter. I sometimes prefer to split the chain rather than use faffy split links.
