^This.
I don't think I can really be arsed to watch a movie adaptation of a game. Source material really doesn't lend itself well to being genuinely interesting outside of interaction. Unless you are talking about heavily novelized games with thick amounts of lore. Ala Mass Effect, Halo, Warcraft, Starcraft. Even then you might as well go pick up a (much-better) novel in the sci-fi/fantasy section of some bookshop.

yeah games aren't hot on narrative (even bioshock Ed) they're not structured for narrative but for game play. In fact, according to director peter greenaway, films shouldn't be too linked to narrative but should focus on the visual treats the medium does best.
Books are best at narrative

play Metal Gear Solid. It is essentially a film. And an awesome one at that.

Also, pigeon-holing video games into a 'visual' only medium just perpetuates the idea that they can't be emotionally engaging in a similar way to books/films/plays etc..

A good game perhaps if you can buy into the story:
Metal Gear Solid follows http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solid_SnakeSnake must liberate two hostages, the head of unit. and the president of a major arms manufacturer, confront the terrorists, and stop them from launching a nuclear strike.
(Wikipedia)So good narrative for a game but still lite compared to any book.
Emotional involvement doesn't need narrative strength nor amazing visuals.
Gameplay can create that.
sad Ico such lonliness and companionship ( basic narrative and visuals)
and sad limbo boy
triumphant victories in online fragfests
fear pervading the spaceship in dead space
guilt and self loathing murdering colossi in shadow of the colossus
big daddycide in bioshock -

Why make an MGS film? just watch Escape From New York.

glad I found another fan. The first PS1 version was great and they started getting a bit samey after that. Also the opening credits were great for their day.
I'd forgotten how good the orignal Tenchu was.
"Nice night", "Where are you, Ninja?". Epic!

To loosely quote the great Robert Mckee
Books are best at inner character conflict
Theatre for outer character
Films for character conflict through environmentI wouldn't say narrative is what's at stake, more the fact that you don't really feel any empathy for a character who can run around killing everything single handedly.
Which is pretty much the problem with EVERY game-based movie. No conflict and thus no drama. Which is probably why the horror genre of adaptations have been the most successful even if they're not perfectly executed.

And the best thing about Tenchu was, of course, the fact that mo-cap was done by none other than the great Sho Kosugi!

is it any good though?

It's awesome, but short. No multiplayer either, but I would play through it again on the harder difficulties and it has challenge modes.

Parry, a number of forumeanger find Vanquish to be enjoyable, so I suspect it's pretty good (might get it).

Limbo is a must play, 360 folks. A more atmospheric slab of beautifully animated puzzle platforming there isn't. To XBLA!

I've discovered that If you play games whilst listening to the new 'Tron Legacy' sound track everything you do is more epic. Shoot some guy before, meh he's dead. With added Tron you feel like you just slayed the mighty cyber wizard. Tetris has never been so intense, feels like your a spy cracking codes.
Ok maybe I'm exaggerating slightly but it defiantly sets a mood...

I once spent half a day people watching and listening to the original Transformer's film soundtrack. Similar effect but way funnier because shooting people should be intense. Crossing the road or running for a bus aren't.

Also, watching one of my friends eat whilst listening to this was for some reason epically hilarious.

I'm thinking this might be a new craze, I wonder what games you could link with sound tracks? I like the idea of the inception soundtrack with Condemned 2 to make even more intense. Tired playing that game round my friends flat the other day, he has a 43" tv and amazing 5.1 we played it in the dark and scream like little girls fucking terrifying

I once made the mistake of playing silent hill in the dark.
The Uncharted film is being directed by the guy who did "I Heart Huckabees" is starring Marky Mark as Drake and is centered around Drakes family "...a family of thieves..." dominating "global power players..."
I'll bet the vision in my right eye it will be absolute tumor.
