As Clive says, without people like Dave grass-roots cycling would die and specifically without Dave's dedication Herne Hill may not be open at all.
Since coming back to track cycling in my mid twenties I've raced around 15 seasons at HH, Dave was ALWAYS there. There is so much I learnt from him, not in direct conversation, or with much frequency, but quick words, suggestions and snippets of info here and there and they were always right, always valuable and unforgettable.
For everything he's put into our sport I hope he gets the memorial he deserves in the form of an annual race at a major event....or something similar.
