The fact is nearly no one up here would be travelling to work on the bikes/cars, the people in the UK are using, in the current conditions.
Its easy for people in colder climes to be smug, as they get winters that are both frequent and long enough, to warrant investing in the right equipment.
I was in the UK last year for the snow. When the man fram Avis give me a sporty hatchback with summer tyres, to drive my family 250miles. I near shat myself.
(those zip ties are still shite though. Ask anyone who offroads. Forwards grip helps you go fast, which is nice. But its sideways grip, that stops you breaking your bones)
