I have a road bike.
me and it spent much of saturday in a sideways position as we tried to go for a weekend ride.
it was funny, but cold, and gritty.

Will CX tyres give you much more grip on wet and icy roads though?

I'm not sure. Just a thought. A CX based utility bike is most versitile bike you can buy IMHO. But then you know that.
