More good news!!!
I've emailed the Cycle show organisers (end of sep, start of october) and they're interested in hosting a tournament next year at the NEC. Sadly it would be outdoors in a car-park, but it could be great for Brum polo and polo in general if we could sort something out.
I'll start a new thread when I have a minute, and will be recruiting for organisational help!!!
Bump - this fell off the current page.

^ nice one! We'll have a chat with council peeps/sustrans see if we can get some favours (money for barriers etc?)
In other news... i know it's london but i want to encourage more women to play - http://www.lfgss.com/thread55586.html#post1798148

Thanks Hyper - I've asked the organisers to provide barriers for two courts (that would be their only financial contribution besides health and safety/insurance, I think), but the more people involved, the better. Hold fire until I've heard back from the organisers and recced the carpark in question, though.

More women would definitely be a good thing. Would the Femme Pedale people be interested in linking up for a polo taster-session? We could do a special one-off, women-only session, or we could encourage people to come to polo before their meeting on December 12th.

Bloody snow! Sunday is now looking unlikely, as it's not forecast to rise above freezing for days, and even if it does, the melted snow will re-freeze over night. I'll take a look at Highgate tonight on my way home from work, though. Keep 'em peeled.

**Polo Cancelled Sun 28th **keep your eyes on here or birminghambikepolo.com for news of Wednesday.
I checked out both courts this evening, and they're both under snow, which will re-freeze tonight and be unplayable tomorrow.

Would any one be interested in helping me to clear the courts tomorrow morning and grit it. This freeze is set to last two weeks and unless we all chip in a tenner each all indoor venues I know are out of bounds, so this may be the only way we get to play?
-

Damn it!
I'd gladdly help out gritting it but doubt it will be playable for tomorrow, we should have maybe done it today to give it a chance. Next week maybe? Do you have a source for grit?
Might be worth accessorising our bikes...

I can aquire grit, I have a snow shovel.
I also now have one small cone and my eye on three more. -

I'll help out, but like Dan_LJ says, it'll just be wasted time tomorrow. Could try Tuesday night, or Saturday morning? Getting all jittery comtemplating two weeks without polo!

I think I'm shaking like a crack addict does when they're told the pharmacy is out of methadone.
I posted my MTB brake off to the manufacturer in the week too in the hope I'd get a cycling fix from Polo...
geocaching it is then, what a sedate Sunday :|

I am up for chipping in and giving grit and shoveling a shot tomorrow. Either that or we close a side street for "Essential Works" and play in the middle of the road. FINAO!!! I will be at HIghgate Park 9:30 or 10 tomorrow.

hmm
there is a court by me, being as this is all a tad 'up in the air' i'll have a look tomorrow, and if your willing to pedal a bit farther (hey i pedal from around a mile from it) i shall stealth grit it for situations such as these...
innit =)

Okay, I'm off to bed now. I'll check this again tomorrow morning, and if there's a consensus formed around going to Highgate (or Calthorpe) to grit, I'll come along. I can supply neither grit nor a snow shovel, though, sorry.
I think we've all got fears of another 2010-style winter, with snow on the ground for weeks at a time. It's not necessarily going to be like that again, although I'll admit if this week is anything to go by it'll actually be worse!

like all the above i'm happy to help out - there must be a grit box nearby
goodnight dan! -

Bah, took the dog for a walk instead of getting grit, I'll see what I can put together tomorrow morning, though my car is terminal so I'm unsure if it will carry me to brum, shall see in morn.

Don't know the moon lounge, but I Google-Earthed it and can't see anything around there. Is it a car-park, or warehouse or something?

guys - there's a grit bin outside my flat in Rea Place. I am happy to go over to the highgate courts and spray my load over it if you need me to on a saturday eve/early sunday morn....
Sundays are better for me to play too, but i aint going to commit and say that I'm going to deffo be attending each week. I find it hard to commit to polo when there's a chance to get some miles in, however, my bike is slowly near completion.

No worries Pistaboy - for athletes like yourself and Pastrylover, I can see that polo is always going to lose out to the open road/turbo trainer. It would be cool to see you when you can make it though.
Which bike are you going to use?
As far as gritting goes, I'm not sure it'll be worth it without first snow-shovelling the court, which I'd say is more than a one-person job. We'll see if any momentum builds up for clearing and gritting the court on Saturday and let you know... Thanks!
I've been really ignorant here, my best mates dad is the area parks manager. Spoke to him on the fone today and the general message was that if we want the lights on longer then we'd have to pay for the use of court (apparently they've said the same to groups wanting to play football)
It still doesn't explain why they were on late last year and not this year though.
next time im round there i'll give him a few digs - soften him up.
