I'm a happy man today.

Got my frame back from Armourtex last week, have to say was very happy with the advice and service.
The only downside is that the palette of RAL colours seems fairly limited compared to the options you have when wet spraying.
Thought the turnaround was super quick too, two days, bam.
Word of warning though—I get the impression that the coat can be a bit fresh when they give it back to you. I was ripping off the bubble wrap (with scissors, I am an idiot) and I nicked the a coat slightly leaving a minor scratch, but no biggie.
Anyway, here she is: RAL 6027 with a clear lacquer.
Full size can be seen here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/anthony_lui/5195716997/
That is bootiful!

For £74 I'm going to do it myself again. Can do it 3 times for that price and to be honest I prefer the sprayed look over powdercoat, but I do know it's more wear resistant.Monsta

Well I know this is not quite the right place for this post...
I have just stripped my carlton pro ready for powder coating, I am going to use a company near me that I have used before for powder coating but never a bike frame!!
I doubt these guys will have ever done a bike frame before and was wondering what I need to tell them to mask off?
Do all threads and holes need to be protected/covered ... ie brake hole, fork steerer, rear mech thread, seat tube?
Don't want to get it back and my seat tube wont fit or rear mech no longer screws on :D
I have no experience in this and would appreciate any information on this.
Thanks
Martin

No mates, was up at that dunmurray, Universal industrial place with the novy frame today £50 to blast and powdercoat it, made the mistake of showing girlfriend your bike frame and she wanted it delphinium blue as well lol, except hers will have chrome forks.
pick it up friday. see how they do this time.

meerlaan yeah basically all tubes and threads need to be masked, as does the fork steerer (otherwise you'll have to sand off the powdercoat to get the headset crown race back on!). Same with canti mounts and downtube shifter bosses if your frame has them.
Stuff like the brake mount holes, mudguard eyelets (if non-threaded), and seatpost bolt hole *can *be powdercoated but you might have to run a file through them to get stuff to fit. These areas are usually full of grease so if you have to remove a bit of powdercoat, rust shouldn't be a problem.
Make sure you do ask though, even if it's embarrasing. A powdercoater once forgot to mask off my derailer hangar thread - had to get it tapped out at a bike shop. Powdercoater paid for it, but it's still a pain(t) in the arse.

-

anyone know a vague price on frame lacquer and chromed forks?
I'm not sure this is what you want to know, but, armourtex won't do chrome.
Lacquer a frame, only, will be something like 15/20 quid.
Chroming some forks can go up to 150 (somewhere else). -
• #848
they say on the website they can do chrome polishing, which is what i meant... also there was meant to be a comma between frame and lacquer.
I'm guessing the paint and lacquer will be ~£70, but i have no idea on a full chrome fork polish... -
• #849
oh... ok then. It has gone up, the pricing.

Which RAL would be closest to Bob Jackson's "champagne"?
