Merino Clothing (base layers, etc)

bought some of the Endura BaaBaa ones from Wiggle last year and they've been very good. quite thick, so very nice for winter. wiggle vouchers that pop up now and again will bring the baselayers down to about £23 each or so.

Been using BaaBaa Merino socks and arm warmers the last few cold rides. Awesome.

Will be getting one of their base layers too I hope.

First impressions - very good quality - packaged nicely (if that matters) in a ziplock style bag. I take a L and it's good on the body - not too clingy but not too relaxed - arms could do with being an inch longer though. Certainly comparable to my Icebreaker Mondo 200 zip neck baselayer in terms of warmth.

Only small issue is (common to my Icebreaker) the label stitching on the left hand side of the body is very scratchy against the skin - which just means cutting the label and stitching out. But for £42 it's pretty good

I just got a couple of tops from www.wool-underwear.com (a sexy site to go with the sexy name) in Aus. The long sleeve sport skins are excellent. Good and thick, double knit. Very long in the body and good long arms. Not so much a base layer - more a full on jersey. They will be fine on their own for most of the winter, with a jacket when it gets icy.

Would have been a bargain for £36, but got fucked by customs so they ended up being £45. Despite that I still think they are a bargain.

^ Really? I don't have a problem wearing mine next to the skin? Have worn it for a couple of days straight with no irritation at all. Both seem about as soft next to the skin for me - do you perhaps have an allergy - I know some people have a reaction to lanolin?

I am not aware of an allergy but I do have sensitive skin. when I start sweating the itching
gets really bad.

I have one, not the best quality, and sometimes a little itchy, but good insulation and doesn't feel wet against the skin when its full of sweat.
Compared to my Embers one, there is a noticeable difference in quality, but not bad for £20.

I am happy to report that my new Icebreaker baselayer doesn't itch. It's much softer
than my older one. Both the 200 weight. I also like the long neck.

Howies sample sale down at Truman Brewery has a decent supply of merino. Got a nice Waffler hoody for £40. Also got two pairs of the fancy selvage jeans for £30 a pop... but that's for another thread.

First ride in my new merino base-layer. Seems to do all it claims to, and is comfortable to the extent of not really noticing it's on. Looking forward to seeing how cosy it keeps me in the coming weeks.
