Second hand electronics are a nightmare.
Believe you have to give them a chance to repair. But write everything down be polite but firm in wanting your money back as you fear further breakdowns, but they can say they want to repair it. Did you buy it on a credit card? That may give you more protection and more come back.
Laptop wise look on moneysavingexpert.com as they have a really useful thread on there about laptops.
