Come with me on a trip down memory lane.
When I first used Pshop you could not rotate an image (and certainly not a portion of an image) - if you wanted something at - for instance 90 degrees - we would have to rescan it at 90 degrees - back then saving a big image (by big I am talking only 10mb or so) might take you 40 minutes plus, so we basically rarely saved (not sure we even had 'undo') and used to work on an image for a few hours and then hit save and go out for a cup of tea, come back in half an hour to see how far the save progress bar had moved or if the whole system had collapsed yet.
We came up with all sorts of tricks to get around the massive limitations back then.
