I suppose they should be in there as standard. Even with your average .avi file it's so easy to put them in I don't why they don't do it for you.
It's really easy to do if you ever get desperate though. You download one (usually small) file and then using VLC media player there's an option in the 'Advanced Open File' (ctrl+shift+O) to use that file for the subtitles. I've done it for foreign films quite a lot.
