  • Get one of your runners to fetch you one, can't be that hard?

  • This is a good idea... I'm busy on the internetz after all.

  • My point. Research and all that...

  • FFS.. "I couldn't find fig cake.. I bought an almond slice"...

She'll not get far that runner..

  • She's quick though, you can send the almond cake my way if you like.

  • I'm making a new soup today. Parsnip and ginger.
I sauteed oinions and garlic in the base, then added half the parsnip and cooked til golden. The added the remaining parsnip, the chunks of ginger a nutmeg a sprig of thyme and some homemade stock. Its now simmering for an hour. Then I'll remove the ginger and nutmeg and puree the rest.
It already smells really nice... can't wait.

I think she* just couldn't be arsed to hunt down some fig cake.. Runners these days just don't have that "do anything" quality.. I have requested her* to make a pot of tea to go with said almond slice.

*not sexist.. Just happened to be a young female runner who answered my request..

  • Thai cottage on D'Arblay st in Soho is a winner..

    +1

  • How is said tea and almond cake going down Brave? Got some Bahlsen Stollen today, not the worst I've had.

  • Kattiep took fig cake with her, last night, at the stockwell dinner. Ask her.

Most pleasant actually.. The typically strong "builders brew" complimented the moistness of the almond slice perfectly..

Talking of tea and cake YumChaa on Berwick Street is fast becoming a favourite Soho escape of mine.. They do a nice lemon slice and a marvellous selection of teas

  • I find YumChaa a little bit mind blowing, it's like walking in to a Dutch cafĂ© as a teenager.

  • Errrrr... errr.. Well. There you are..

  • Can someone please confirm a Tesco store that stocks that goddamn Soreen banana malt loaf.

  • I tried to hunt this down in the big Whitechapel Sainsburys...

    ...nothing =[

  • I swear it's nowhere! ive looked in about 5 supermarkets and nadda,

Dinner tonight is a quartet of different saus: Wild boar and bramley, Italian fennl and garlic, Honey and mustard and chilli and dark chocolate. slow fry, couple of nut cutlets and some beanz!

  • Made the pilgrimage to the promised land of pizza last night, Santa Maria, over Ealing. Well worth a visit. Hot, fresh, chewy and tasty; but that's enough about me - lovely pizza, service and atmosphere too. Thoroughly recommended.

  • That's lust right there. My own fig cake.

I Concur. Absolutely bloody delish Nuknow.
I'm thinking curry goat for a Sunday supper.....

  • you overcooked your broccoli, I think. Easy to do.

  • Who did?

  • I'm thinking curry goat for a Sunday supper.....

    Get it marinading now then...

I had Bitoke at O Cantiho last night, delish... Made Caldo Gallego this morning seeing as they had fresh grelos* at the Portuguese butchers on Atlantic Road... Problem is I've made waaaaaaay too much... So that's the weekend's cooking taken care of... :]

    • turnip greens

I finally found a brace of the buggers in Tesco Brixton in the end. Seems to be exclusive to them but the bigger branches in Lewisham and OKR don't stock it.

  • tomorrow:
4kgs of lamb leg, slow cooked in Ras el Hanout....
    then some roasties etc.
got about 8hrs of cooking at 120C.
    Love it!

  • for slow cooking mutton would actually be better. Lamb is already tender. If you get a nice firm meat like mutton or a beef shin and spend the time slow cooking it, it will knock your socks off.

  • nope. lamb ftw.
    i'm an arab.
    I know these things.

    its medium slow cooking anyhow.
the ras elhanout will be mixed with olive oil and butter and smeared on, then cover the lot in foil and cook for a good while then brown for a bit at the end.
    just like omi taught me.

(mutton's good too, but since i have the lamb, its getting cooked)
