  • Most of us know what Movemeber is, however if you don't here is a little write up on how the month of November can have its name changed for you...

    http://uk.movember.com/about/

  • Maybe we should have a Movember Alleycat, what do you reckon? With prizes for the best moustache.

Girls could draw one on or maybe just stay at home cooking and cleaning.

  • Like it. Last checkpoint could be to shave it off, then the winner takes all...

  • Yeah, good call.

I'm well in as long as its after half eight at night... Lol.

And loosers gotta shave their own facial lot off, then chew on a mixed bowl of facial pubes for 30 seconds!

    Dark!

  • "Good" ideas there. We'll have a think about it.

In the mean time, everyone grow a moustache anyway. Or a beard from which a moustache could be carved at a moment's notice. I might keep a razor in my tool kit from now on.

Only joking, I would never carry a tool kit.

  • I am preparing a beard and will, at all times, carry a safety razor should the need for trimming arise.

  • Gem trimmed my tash last night... God I look manly!

  • I think all the trimmed hair should be collected, thrown into a sandwich, and the participant with the worst 'Tache has to eat it.

    what you reckon?

  • Fuck it - whoever has the weakest moustache should be beaten to within an inch of his life, bound, gagged and chucked into the river.

  • The Tash Bash!

  • Facebook event here.

  • $hit just got real.

  • So is this actually a race/competition or "just" a group ride as was discussed earlier?

  • I'll try and be there, hopefully in tweed jacket and plus fours.

How about a Sunday lunch pub ride on the 28th as well? Where we can admire ones moustaches in daylight.

  • So is this actually a race/competition or "just" a group ride as was discussed earlier?

It will be a point to point race, the route of which should roughly describe a giant moustache over the face of Norwich (maybe).

It will be competitive, and there will be prizes.

  • Get involved gents. We need riders, marshalls.. oh, and those prizes I mentioned..

Ooo, point-to-point as in checkpoints are revealed one at a time, as you go along?

  • Roll-up roll-up, compete, supply your own prizes... Win win.

  • supply your own prizes

I'm going to print myself a "for trying your best" certificate and tape a lolly pop on the corner.

I was thinking reveal all the checkpoints at the start, make it more about the riding and routefinding than map-reading and searching - but actually that sounds like a pretty good idea. Give each team a random first checkpoint, then the marshall at that point writes down their arrival time and tells them where the next point is..

If you're going to reveal one checkpoint at a time then you'd need to send everyone to them in the same order, or else each team will have a completely different prescribed route and distance to ride. Some could end up being sent back and forth across the city while others get lucky and are given a quick circular route.

But, the trouble with a true point-to-point race is heavy bunching at the start and also everyone just following the leader, so you'd need something to string the pack out before the first checkpoint. This could be achieved by making it a long way off, putting hills in the way, making it hard to find, having a staggered start like a time trial, etc. I'd favour the first two, if anything. Though a staggered start could be interesting, then you could offer the checkpoints AND the order in which to visit them. But, then you lose the bustle and chase of a mass-start.
Lots of ways to do it, I guess.

I guess in this case you could give all the checkpoints upfront and also offer a tip that an optimal route describes a moustache shape across the city - that will make people think carefully about where each of the checkpoints actually is in the city and try to plot a route before setting off.

  • I was thinking that the marshall would send them to the next point in a circular route, and then as long as the points were roughly equidistant from the start point, each route would be more or less the same (dependent on the route taken of course).

Now I was thinking that this would throw the whole "moustache shaped route" thing out the window, but if you look at Team B's route..

    Not moustache shaped you say?

  • A well-researched and compelling presentation.

I can see the sort of thing you mean now and that would work in theory - but I don't suppose the checkpoints could ever, in practice, be at all equidistant or "equidifficult" from the start.

I just want there to be no doubt or controversy over why I won - it's not that I got given an easier route, but that I am juiced to the focking gills and have a freezer full of my own red blood cells.

  • Though I'm of course open to all sorts for these things and I don't mean to sound like I'm hatin' on your plans. I'm just interested innit

  • I am compelled as to knowing who u r olf! Have we met. I want your blood cells
