  • The picture says it all....

Locked up with a lime green pound shop combination cable lock (about the thickness of my little finger) outside Barkers Arcade on Kensington High Street on saturday, I was actually too shocked to take a photo. seriously, wtf?!

  • Stolen perhaps?

How many of us think its ok to steal a bike in this situation?

What about leaving a note and borrowing it for a few weeks?

It would be awesome to rag it for a few weeks then return it to the same spot, but locked up with a decent lock and a note with your number on it.

I'd let them have the lock as payment.

  • seen in my native swansea, seat post was QR too

Yeah, in this case the deterrent is the bike, not the lock ;0)

    Haha!

  • pitty steal?

Seriously, sometimes I think it needs to be done. Had my hands on an only partially locked beasty in glasgow 2weeks ago, was something pretty nice (mish mash of parts but nice) with decent looking D lock through front wheel and down tube, so could wheel away. Poked at it for long enough seeing what was what, then the guy turned up wondering why I was prodding his bike. He then realised he hadn't actually locked it to the bike station thing and did so, but wasn't happy about it. Like it was my fault for making him come out of his office and lock his bike properly. I should have taken it, would have saved me my bus fares for those few days :/

  • Anyone got any experience with these: looks a neat idea in theory. The removability of QR for punctures without the vulnerability.

What the hell? I'd be quite angry too if I saw someone prodding at my bike because it obviously looks like that person wants to steali it.
You seem very frustrated here as well... no matter how badly someone locks (or doesn't) lock his or her bike, you have no right to take it.

  • To be fair it's understandable why he's annoyed but saying thing like it's his fault for making him come out to lock it properly is just silly

  • this bike,is locked outside my work, granted its a piece of shit, but still if your gonna bother to lock the front and back wheel at least attach them to something.

I'm using them at the moment. They seem pretty good, not as quick to remove as QR skewers because you still need to unscrew them, but they take a 5 sided allen key thing rather than a normal one. I like how the tool you get with them has a screw through it, so it screws into the nut making it easier to tighten them up.

  • I got those too, not as secure as pitlock (all the tools is the same), but a good deterrant when the theft realise he need to pop round to the shop and buy that tool.

  • Smart product. First they sell to people who want some extra security without the hassle, then they sell again to the smarter thief, who'll make his money back the first time he finds some nice wheels with these on.

  • Fucking amateur, your wheels and stabilisers are GONE blud this is Herne Hill, get me blud!

Yeah, my OTP (Marin) came with one of these on the front wheel. I'm still using it and nobody's nicked the wheel yet. Also, I haven't lost the tool either so it's working so far.

I don't have much faith in it though...

  • Well you defintely have more faith than a standard allen bolt one.

  • True, but not a lot more. It's security by obscurity - if everyone used them, the thieves would just carry the tool.

    Sense.

  • Saw a great bit of bad locking the other day but unfortunately no camera...

Someone had d locked their bike to a railing. Except instead of putting it around the bike/wheels, the d lock was still in it's slot on holder, just turned sideways. It's like they thought, why bother removing the d lock from this convenient slot in holder, I can just leave it in here for absolutely no bike security and 5 seconds of time saved.....

Nice bell, I'd have me that away too.
