  • @jaw, i've been to a little balinese place up near kentish town ages ago. seem to recall it being good. i'm always loathe to pay restaurant prices for indonesian food because of the association i have of it being so cheap. silly really cos i'm happy to pay uk prices for indian and sri lankan curries which would cost no more than a quid or so in their native environment.

    i suppose the thing about "real" indo food is that it's definitely not in the realms of fine dining, it's just a cheap way of getting tasty protein and carbs into yourself. i mean, the national dishes are basically "left over rice, re-fried with whatever else is kicking about, served in newspaper with a fried egg on top" (nasi goreng) and "a big pile of steamed vegetables, eggs and rice with peanut sauce on it" (gado gado). both kind of wrong, but so, so good.

    man. now i am hungry.
