There's a ball in my jacket pocket Joni, completely forgot when we were dropping off the loaner. My brother is in all day today, or I could drop it off this evening?
When we lost that ball last night with felix's epic goal... if only that was on camera. Epic win and fail in the same mallet stroke XD

No hurry mate, come round and get that Mod when you want. Tonight could be cool.
Epic night night of polo though, good times.

No youtube if you really dont want it uploaded then, but honestly it looks fine. I'd like to put it up, its fun.
Everyone gets clipped now and again, its nothing to be ashamed of!Alex, we have an understanding with the residents at Newington not to commandeer the courts and go there every night, which is why it's in the south in the first place.
Is this true or just apocryphal? When or where did this meeting happen, with what group of residents, what was the understanding / agreement reached?
Yes I know I'm only living here eight months and there was polo before I got here etc etc, but I'd like to know if anything actually did happen in the past, please enlighten me. It never seems like there is any problem whatsoever with local kids (either sharing the space or them getting ratty) at Newington because there are two courts.
I know its not 'ours' but considering the amount of work and effort with the council put into getting those lights back up and running, I think we shouldnt be so timid about using the court for games other than one or two nights a week. Nobody else was doing it.

That word 'casual' makes me think of geezers with beer bellies and ben shermans glassing each other in the head on a Saturday lunchtime. Not quite sure the polo is getting that rough...
But it definitely isnt beginners! It seemed most people had very low gearing, running on freewheels, v-brakes set up, and so on - and are quite confident with hitting the ball with accuracy, staying up after challenges, passing, even one person was leaning on one foot for a ballerina shot (I dont know what its called). People are getting a lot better in a short space of time, Quorn Road nursery is producing some decent players.

There were discussions with the residents because they were not happy with us there all the time. I think Hops and possibly some others placated this by saying that we'll keep it to a minimum. It's not so much about the kids not being able to use the courts.
They're ok with occasional sessions there (i.e league games) but I think they would take a dim view to polo there on a few occasions on a regular basis.
It was them (we think) that sabotaged the lights in the first place so we try not to piss them off too much. And as Skoota said, as league games should not interfere with regular throw-in's, we need to utilise the limited available court space (esp in the South) for these.
This is my understanding of it all.
The LHBPA are looking in how best to run the beginners sessions next year when I've gone.

Tuesday night is NE too, there were 8 or 9 at Mitch last night.
Ha! More at 'casuals'! Joni says 12, but there were two games at one point with one person sitting out and a couple had left by then, so I'd say more like 15!
I see no reason to move, just needs to stop being called beginners, people need to get used to calling it just Tuesday Peckham!
I believe (from reading the thread) that wed souths was originally started to foster new talent (and because people couldn't be arsed to travel north) well the same evolution is happening to Tuesday at peckham.

I hope so, more people and more places and more days... I think its all good for the polo family
-
• #1235
yup Louis bang on, also it has to be said there is plenty of space at peckham for a 'nursery court' if people feel the need to seperate no?
-
• #1236
Yeah totally. That's sort of what I had in mind B, if it gets to a stage that noobs don't want to play with the others. Beginners court and casual court ;)
Perhaps as and when Beginners migrates north (I think there is a need, you will definitely get more players if central) Tuesdays @ Peckham will stay, who knows.
Moar polo!

^we predicted this a while ago... now it's happening, an extra polonight a week is being needed.
Thursdays at Peckham, J ? Good old times, that is how at the very 'begin-ners' used to be.
(also, more choices for me, I am too often stuck at work on Tuesdays)

Where about in north London is north polo? and on what days? Is there any weekend Polo?
Last night was awesome, already looking forward to Tuesday. Sorry about the loaner's bars/stem Joni, me thinks I had one too many falls with it. It's such a pleasure to play on though.
Finally, as I mentioned to a couple of you last night - there is a shop on Maddox St just off Regent St selling budget sports stuff, mainly golf clubs but if you have a look around there are other materials for mallets knocking about, Also if you want to make Citygent into a trend setter, there are some discarded temporary road signs dotted around Millbank, New Oxford St/TCR/Oxford St and Portland Place

North polo as per se, doesnt happen, there were talks and a lot of good intentions, but didnt give any results at the end
North East polo, happen in Mitchison Rd and in Downham (mainly but not only)
but anyway, using the search, you could have find this and much more....

• #1240
Search is to easy, takes the fun out of things. Like with Google, sure it looks fun...

I say keep calling it "beginners". It's the sentiment that counts - i.e. don't worry about being shit, we are all here to learn. And I'm still missing the ball 9/10 times so they'll be in good company.
