  • (so) what projects is everyone working on? anything fun?

I've already posted about the 1954 Hetchins that I'm working on but I have a couple of recent projects that were fun. One was for one of the receptionists in the local clinic. She told me she had around $600 to spend and was thinking of buying a Louis Garneau (originally Canadian, I think, but it's basically junk to start with and made in China). I told her she could get a really nice bike for less than half of that if she bought something 2nd hand and did it up. She was interested but didn't know anything about bikes so I offered to help.

I looked on Yahoo Auction Japan and found a 1985 Katakura Silk that she liked and which we bought for $120, stripped down and rebuilt together, spending abother about $180 on. All the chrome parts were rusty but oxalic acid cleared that up. New balls in the headset and BB but the wheels were fine. The paint was good after a good going over with fine compound and wax and all the alluminium came up very nicely. Below are some before and after photos.

I don't make any money for doing this. It's just fun to do and the only condition I impose is that whoever I help pays for all the parts and gets their hands dirty.
