• I don't quite follow the "8 speeds is too few, I really want 11 so I'll just have 1" train of thought but then again I suppose I don't really have to. Imo one speed is enough for these kind of bikes, I sometimes borrow my dads bike to get groceries because it's big and has fat tyres and two racks.

    One is fine, but the weight and fat tyres of the bike make it a little harder to accelerate from traffic at time (even at 61GI) and the hill I do need to stand up (especially on Wimbledon Hill Road), also the range in the 8 speeds hubs is a bit random whether the iMotion and the Rohloff have a steady range;

    The new 11 speeds is a lots better, oil bath, lighter and cheaper than a Rohloff, and I use that bike everyday, from a quick singletrack to a cargo carrying monster, shitload of fun to ride and stupidly smooth on the road, make a nice difference to a skinny 700c despite not being as quick.

    Oh and MrSmyth? don't spout till you taste it.
