Does it extend to clamp itself in, or do you have to screw it ...
It extends and locks. Then there is a nut and bolt in the bottom to raise it tight. There are screw holes in the top pad and I did screw it in to the celling. But that was mainly to make it more secure and stop any lateral movement. I didn't use rawpugs and only two of the three screws are properly secured. But as it's the extension that really holds it, it'll be fine.
As for whether you should screw it?... I would, but it's prolly not the end of the world.
Also there are two brackets to hold it to the wall. If I did it again I'd use them. Unfortuneatly the pole is just too far to do it now.
Oh and you'll prolly need another person, esp for getting it level/straight.
