    As for webkit, of course I am aware of it. They've taken an Open Source project and forked it to create their own browser. Would be pretty grotty if they'd not contribute to that one ... so what else do they support?

    And if you take a step back, can you deny that they're pushing a model very hard in which you as a developer will have to go through their app store, agreeing to their terms?

    iPhone and iPad are the money machines for them, so they think "can we do the same with the OSX platform" ...

    The thing that really gets my goat is that most apps are really just a re-packaged subset of what a website does for free, but you have to pay for it. And if you want to have control over the devices (reads: fix it), you have to jailbreak it (reads: repair it).
    My bet is that in 10.8 or 10.9 they'll have exactly that for any desktop or laptop: Locked down, and you have to jailbreak to gain root.
