• If I buy a device, I want to be able to install whatever I want. After all I just dropped 1.5k for a machine.

Ok, I will admit that even I am split personality, as I have bought a Kindle and that is pretty locked down as well. But Apples constant striving for the worse is really pissing me off.
Started with their shit support and the encouraged upgrade for apple care, but the appification is the WORST. THE WORST.
They even try to lock down which programming languages you can use. WTF????

And unlike other major players they don't seem to give a whole lot back to the Community in terms of Open Source.
Compare that to Google that have open sourced so much stuff I can't even make a list.

I am working in IT, I buy a new machine every year or so, it'll usually be top of the range stuff, and apple are just not getting my money anymore.

You want to be able to install whatever you want on your Mac? Good news: you can, and always will be able to. The whole OS is based on Unix, and you will always be able to develop and install whatever you want on it.

Also, to say that Apple gives nothing to open source projects is nonsense. Head of WebKit? Odds are that you're using it right now even if you weren't aware of it.
