  • 'Ratty'!
im scared to ask what the 'main ride' is.
thats a hell of a rat bike

ive put as much money into this bike as my (main) road bike i just feel less precious about scratching it or throwing it about as it looks rusty and shit... so I call it my ratty.

Also, Eddie how do you find riding braklas in winter with clips and straps?

amnn not great. i think ill be switching back to spd's soon.

  • That front mech above arrived from eBay, was supposed to be new, but has a bit of grit and grease on it. Nothing bad, still shiny, and would clean up to look brand-spanking, but it's a tad annoying. Is there anything to be done in these circumstances, or do I just ignore it? It was only £19.99 posted.

  • Good job there fella. Not sure about the new white saddle but good to see and read a beginning to end project report.

  • anyone know how you'd go about replacing one of these spokes from my set of Mike Burrows wheels, I finally tracked some down thanks to Moog, and thanks to Peter V for buying/posting, collected them yesterday, now just wondering how tricky the process will be?

HOW is not the problem. If you have a replacement of the correct length, it's just like any other spoke.
You've got to take the tyres off to get access to the bolt (instead of the usual spoke nipple). You can loosen/tighten the spoke with a pretty standard bolt and Allen key.
So, not tricky at all. 5 to 10 min job.

  • Looking good S.Doman, needs a silver seatpost though to match the stem IMO

  • my new winter hack.
Raleigh Elan brought for 60 quid and converted with bits i had knocking about apart from the bartape which i felt was needed to finish it off.
    looks shite but rides nicely.

Cheers DC, yeah got correct length, gonna try and do it tomorrow...

Sam I have a black stem you could have, 100mm. lemme know.

  • Tendrloin where did you get the spoke and do you have more and if you do what length? Lotsa questions but I have a set of those wheels with a rear spoke missing.

I'd say buff it up and suck it up at that price. And give the seller negative feedback for not doing the buffing before he wrapped it up.

  • @Kernowsibley - what's the tape?

  • just some cheap ebay stuff but its leather and the fade matches the graphic on the down tube (which you can't really see in the photo) nicely.

You were done, but not by enough to make it worth the hassle of doing anything about it

  • When people get to know me, they tend to settle one way or the other, about 50/50

i'm sure youre swell. just playing around,

  • Still waiting for the Cinelli Tempo bars, which I bought from (and paid for!) from henryb over 2 weeks ago. But atleast it's rideable for now.

Shit photo, but it looks/feels pretty good in real life. Really can't wait to get the proper bars on it, and give it a proper thrashing now!

love this. anodize the stem and ring black, and it's done,

  • Got it from an online shop in Holland, Peter V helped me order it. they are pricey though, i have two, 1 of each length, i will let you know; here's the website...http://www.beekhovenbikes.nl/product...1ec70f5e8e0b94

:( thought that might be the case, gonna have to suck it up and buy a brake lever or stick with silly shoes.

  • Still waiting for the Cinelli Tempo bars

If they don't show up, I've got a 42cm Tempo laying around.

  • I've left negative feedback, will leave it at that....

  • Found this abandoned on a bike path, was missing wheels, rear mech and front mech and shifters were damaged so it's my new pub bike once finished...

    Dated at 1983, P10L

Quick 'n dirty build - thrown together with bits I've got knocking about (and some bargain Pink tape)

    Maybe it'll make Anti ;)

Thanks for the link! Are there only two different lengths of spokes? I seem to recall there being three, but I may be wrong. I'll need to get the rear wheel with the missing spoke from somewhere near the bottom of a pile of wheels to check if I'm missing a radial or a cross one and measure it, would be awesome to finally be able to use them!

  • I am currently deciding what to do in a pretty shitty situation. I was sent this bike from retrobike, the guy listed it without a description, i emailed him and sorted everything out (stupidly assumed he would mention major problems in the ad/email if there were any). the groupset is fine and includes brakes, and i have got a front wheel for it, but the seatpost is seized in the frame and even worse there is a hairline crack (!!!) in the toptube near the seatpost. I am going to get it checked over by edwardes and see if they can remove seatpost.

If they can, and it is sound what is just frame and fork worth?

If they can't, but it's sound whats the frame and fork worth?

If it's not sound, should i take bb and headset and forks and chuck it?

sorry for the message length, thanks

  • Although I can see the paint chipped on the last picture, I can't quite see the hairline crack you mentioned on the other picture.

  • ^^hott!!!
